After two consultants from the National Institute of Corrections conducted a review on the Erie County Prison, their results are in.

The County Executive Barry Grossman tells us the jail is not in need of a total overhaul, but there are some issues that need to be addressed...

From January 7 through January 9 two consultants from the NIC began their study on the Erie County Prison...

County Executive Barry Grossman received the results today...

He explains that over the past year there have been several mishaps at the prison by the staff... Including time card fraud, stolen ammunition, and harassing of inmates...

Aside from that, the report indicates that there are some areas that need immediate attention such as hiring, training, and promoting practices that are currently employed.

The report also calls for more accountability by the warden, James Veschecco and his staff.

Low staff morale is also mentioned and that is the result of low communication.

The County Executive says that will be addressed and corrected.

The two consultants also recommended that the prison should look into hiring two deputy wardens to have more than one opinion.

Veschecco is planning on retiring at the end of the year, and officials will be in the process of finding new leadership.
