But what should you do if you're one of those people left without water?

There are thousands of people in our area that are left without water due to the water main break that began early Wednesday morning...

If you're one of those people... The American Red Cross has been working with Emergency Management to make sure the needs of the people affected are being met.

Masi says the most important thing is for people to have enough water stored so they can do everyday things like bathe or prepare food, but they've gotten a lot of calls from people worried about what to do if their pipes freeze due to the break.

One option may be going down to the basement and draining water out of your water tank

But you want to make sure you turn the gas off to the tank if you're going to drain the water out of it, so the tank doesn't ignite.

We're told it does take some time to boil snow... If you want to go that route, it's easy, wait for it to boil... Then take that water and dump it in your toilet to flush.

Rzepecki says having enough bottles of water is another way to be prepared if you're going to be left without water for a long period of time.

Comments

Use common sense, buy a few gallons to use, and use it SPARINGLY, people are so used to wasting water, that if they find themselves without for some reason, they panic, you DON'T need gallons to brush your teeth, so stop running the water full blast to do so, Plain, common sense!!
