Troops overseas can expect some extra deliveries from our area, thanks to a new fund.

The Erie School District community established the Erie Soldiers' Fund to help local families with the costs of sending care packages overseas.

Any Erie resident can apply for up to $100 to buy much appreciated items like hand sanitizer, phone cards and snacks.

The fund is starting off at $3,000.

Anyone interested in applying for assistance can send a request to the board secretary's office.
