Glenn E. “Shorty” Winkler, Jr., age 57 of Wattsburg, passed away following a brief illness, Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at the Cleveland Clinic surrounded by his family. He was born April 5, 1952 in Erie, a son of Donna G. Foster Winkler and the late Glenn E. Winkler, Sr. He had resided in the Erie area his entire life.
Glenn was a 1970 graduate of Harbor Creek High School. He had been employed by the Wattsburg Area School District in the maintenance department for the past 32 years. He was the past president of the local PA State Education Assn.-ESP Region; the current president of the PSEA-ESP Northwestern Division Local and was also currently serving on the board of directors for the PSEA-ESP Region. He previously coached the Jr. Rifle League and taught shooting safety to children at Gem City Gun Club; was a member of Corry Rod and Gun Club where he was also a member of a rifle league; and a member of the ELK Foundation and the NRA. He enjoyed hunting and loved to share his excitement and stories of the many hunting trips with good friends and fishing or having fun on his boat “Dances with Waves”. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren who brought so much joy to his life. Friends and family will always remember how he would go out of his way to look out for them and was always trying to help others to appreciate and enjoy the outdoors. Survived by his wife of 35 years, Charlotte Hadberg Winkler; one daughter, Tina Winkler of Wattsburg; one son, Richard Winkler of Wattsburg; two grandchildren, Tye and Kamron Williams; two brothers, Martin Winkler and Rusty Winkler (Becky); one sister, Vicki Fewell (Larry); mother-in-law, Dona Hadberg; extended family members, Dan and Karen Cywinski and Dave and Colleen Poeta; many nieces and nephews. Friends may call, in camouflage or casual dress at Shorty’s request, at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road on Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend the Funeral Service there on Saturday at 11 a.m. Private interment at the convenience of the family.
