  • Allegheny's Salopek Named Player of Week
Reported by: Luke Simons (Allegheny Press Release)

    Monday, Nov 2, 2009 @10:19pm EST

Salopek named NCAC Offensive Player of the Week

MEADVILLE, Pa. – T. J. Salopek (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville) has been named the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Offensive Player of the Week for the game of Oct. 31. It is the second time he has earned the honor this season.

Salopek rushed for two touchdowns, including the game-winning score to rally the Gators (7-1, 4-1 NCAC) back from a 14-point deficit to defeat Wooster, 24-21. With 7:21 left in the fourth quarter, he scored off a two-yard scamper to give Allegheny the lead for good. Salopek finished the day 27-for-43 in passing to break the program record for career completions with 481, topping Bubba Smith’s (2000-03) mark of 478. He also threw for 312 yards, putting him 214 yards away from second place on the all-time passing yards chart and needs three more pass attempts to take over second place in the record books.

On the season, Salopek has amassed 2,070 yards on 180 completions while throwing 12 touchdowns and only being picked off four times. He currently ranks second in the NCAC in passing average per game with 258.8 yards.

Allegheny returns to action on Saturday at Wittenberg. Game time is 1 p.m.
