Reported by: Kim Thomas Tuesday, Nov 3, 2009 @11:40am EST They may be long-time rivals on the football field, but the McDowell Trojans and the Cathedral Prep Ramblers have come together to support the fight against cancer.
Representatives from both Prep and McDowell presented checks to the American Cancer Society and Regional Cancer Center.
The money was raised from the "CUREage Cup" game between the two football teams in September. The teams raised more than $9,000 and split the funds between the two organizations. "To see the rivalry come together in all that it is, but then in this additional element is really great, there are a lot of people in need in our community and around that are battling cancer," said Lisa Louis, Regional Cancer Center. "We are so grateful for the support of both Cathedral Prep and the Millcreek Township School District, they raised a great amount of money that we can use for our local patient services and education programs," said Kelley Spaeder, American Cancer Society. The students raised funds through a portion of the game's ticket sales as well as donations and proceeds from t-shirt sales. |
