After original plans to renovate the historic Dickson Tavern fell short - another company is picking up and moving forward with it.

Kidder Wachter Architecture and Designs will purchase the building from the city of Erie for one dollar and take on the renovation of the city's oldest building.

After businessman Samuel "Pat" Black decided not to pursue the project, Jeff Kidder and his partners filed the proposal to preserve the building and use it as office space.

Kidder says this will allow them to maintain the Dickson Tavern at its original site.

"It’s our oldest documented building, it's in the downtown, it has a history to it and it just needs somebody to make sure it continues on," he says.

Kidder says they will begin work as soon as all the paperwork is complete.

They will allow the public in for tours if it's a prearranged visit.

They also plan to open it up to the public for special occasions, such as the building's 200th birthday in 2015.
