Reported by: Sky Chernauskas Wednesday, Nov 4, 2009 @04:23pm EST City council took the first steps to discuss banning cell phone use while driving in the city of Erie.
Councilwoman Rubye Jenkins Husband has proposed the idea to make it illegal to use a hand-held phone while driving. After some discussion today, council decided they will seek input from surrounding municipalities on the idea. Jenkins Husband says, "We really need to get an ordinance to protect our citizens. The chances, risk of people getting injured or lives lost is almost quadruple while driving hand-held phones and talking." Council will begin to talk about this legislation at a study session scheduled for the 12th. |
