NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk Admirals have released goaltender Jaroslav Janus from his Professional Tryout Contract (PTO). Janus will report to the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League.

Janus, a 5-foot-11, 192-pound goaltender from Presov, Slovakia, appeared in his first two professional games with the Admirals, recording an impressive 1.52 goals-against average and .939 save percentage with an 0-2-0 record. He made his pro debut on October 14 at Albany, stopping 27 of 29 shots in a 3-1 setback. The Admirals NHL parent club, the Tampa Bay Lightning, drafted Janus in the sixth round (162nd overall) of last summer’s NHL Entry Draft.

Janus completed his second OHL season with Erie in 2008-09, posting a 25-20-3 record with a 3.24 goals-against average in 49 games. He led the Otters in games played, wins, shutouts with three and save percentage at .908. He also played in five playoff games with Erie, posting a shutout and a 1-4-0 record.

Janus has played in 97 career OHL games, posting a 38-49-5 record with a 3.81 goals-against average.

Janus played well at the 2009 World Junior Championships with Team Slovakia. He posted a 3-4-0 record with a 3.20 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage in seven games.
