Democrat Barry Grossman managed to hold onto a slim election night lead to defeat Mike Kerner today.
1250 absentee ballots and 7 voting machines had to be counted before the winner was declared, in the end 344 votes separated the two candidates.
In an emotional speech this afternoon Kerner introduced the Democrat as the next County Executive.
Now Barry Grossman will start his transition into office, for a political newcomer these first few weeks can be crucial, Grossman already toured the courthouse, meeting staff, reviewing budget proposals, and getting his transition staff in place.
