Reported by: Sky Chernauskas Tuesday, Nov 10, 2009 @12:49pm EST Students at Edison Elementary learned about history from the people who lived it today.
The kids were visited by veterans of Vietnam and World War II as part of the schools Veterans Day celebration. We met the students while they were having lunch with the vets, asking questions about the wars while sharing a meal. School officials tell us the kids learn more today than they could in a book. Amy Rupp of Edison Elementary says, "Many times we try and give them experiences through videos or the news but when they see someone in person, give them a hug, it makes it more meaningful." After lunch the veterans will talk to each class about what it was like to serve in a war and what America was like during World War II and the Vietnam War. |
