Reported by: Bob Knarr Monday, Nov 16, 2009 @06:21pm EST These days, many businesses are finding ways to go green.
Today, we head to an automotive repair shop where supplying heat is simply a matter of recycling motor oil. For more than 20 years, Frank Starvaggi has been heating his automotive repair shop. But he hasn't been using gas. He's turned to a cheaper, more environmentally friendly way - recycled motor oil. He says it has multiple benefits. By using the recycled motor oil, Starvaggi doesn't have to pay for gas. In the industry, there's a cradle to grave law when it comes to motor oil. By re-using the motor oil, he can keep track of the oil waste from his shop. Once the oil is taken out of the vehicles, it's saved in a tank. It's then filtered and put into the waste oil heater when it's needed. Starvaggi is also insuring that the used motor oil doesn't end up anywhere that it could have harmful environmental effects. Starvaggi says many automotive repair shops have turned to using waste oil heaters and even, in some places, air conditioners. |
