Reported by: Kim Thomas Friday, Nov 20, 2009 @05:29pm EST The cause of the suspicious death of a 2-year old Erie girl has been ruled "undetermined." The Erie County Coroner said recent test results do not medically or scientifically determine the cause of death of 2 year old Takiah Warren.
Warren was found unresponsive in her home on October 13th.
Police had named Marquice Evans a person of interest in the case after Warren's 5-year old sister said Evans put a towel over the victim's face. Evans was in prison on an unrelated robbery charge, but has since been released. Officials say they will continue to investigate Warren's death despite the coroner's ruling. "We still can't rule out the fact that it may have been a suffocation death, an asphyxial type of death, but we just aren't able to, we don't have the information to be able to prove that within a scientific or medical certainty," said Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook. "Simply because the death is undetermined, doesn't mean that someone didn't not kill this child, so homicide still exists as a charge against any individual," said Erie County District Attorney Jack Daneri. The DA says they, along with the Erie Police Department, will re-interview witnesses. |
