Reported by: Bob Neely Monday, Nov 23, 2009 @02:36pm EST The search for a Corry family who failed to return after a Sunday afternoon hike in the Allegheny National Forest has ended happily.
The family of three spent a night in the forest, but emerged early this afternoon cold, but in good health after finding their way back to the marked trail after dawn broke this morning.
They huddled together under a pile of leaves to stay warm overnight.
The trio encountered the searchers at a location known as Rimrock some distance from the place where their vehicle was found near the head end of the Morrison Trail in the Allegheny National Forest.
Pennsylvania State Police, firefighters, tracking dogs and a helicopter crew were among the searchers, who numbered more than a hundred people from two states and six counties.
Pennsylvania State Police at Kane did not release the names of the hikers, but described them as a husband, wife and their 9-year-old son.
More information will be available on Action News 24 tonight.
