Is cabinet refacing a good alternative to new cabinets?
Not generally. In most situations, refacing cabinets can be just as messy and take as much time as a total replacement. Where price is concerned, purchasing new cabinets can be just as inexpensive as having them refaced, as long as the refacing is done by a professional. You should also consider the selection of door styles, wood species, and finish options. You may find that refacing options can be limited. One of the most important reasons to remodel rather than reface, is for design purposes. Obviously, refacing does not change the layout of your kitchen, or add new features. Warranties should also be considered. New cabinetry will generally carry a warranty of 10 years up to lifetime and your refacing warranty is only on the quality of the refacing job, which does not take into account the structural integrity of your existing cabinetry. |
