10:30 - childcare available and classes for children and adults

At Church of the Cross we believe that all people matter to God, and so we openly welcome any and all who want to explore faith and learn more about the Bible and about God's life-transforming love through Jesus Christ.

We believe in the importance of strong and healthy families and offer a variety of programs and opportunities for children, youth and adults to help all of us to be learning, growing and serving together.

Just as Jesus came not to be served, but to serve, we are actively involved in various mission and service efforts right here in Erie as well as in many places across our nation and throughout the world.

Most of all, we want to help people live a full and purposeful life through being in a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

More information about who we are and what we offer is available at www.cotc.org.

Meet the Pastoral Staff
  • Rev. James K. Moelk, Pastor
After graduation from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in the Boston Area in 1985, my family and I moved here to Erie. In 1992, I was one of the founding co-pastors of Church of the Cross. Jaye and I have found Erie to be a great place to raise our three children, Janel, James and Jocelyn. I enjoy sports of all types, along with reading, archery hunting and finishing my log home. We also enjoy spending time with our three grandchildren, Katy, Gabe and Colten and our new puppy, Sadi.

  • Pastor David Fugate
I joined the staff of COTC in the fall of 2009 and have been richly blessed by the opportunity to serve those who worship and serve here. Joining the staff was a homecoming for me since my family has worshipped here since the late 90s and I have known many of the congregation since my childhood. I have had the opportunity to serve several congregations in Northwestern PA and also had a private counseling practice for many years. My current "day job" is as a hospital chaplain, but I am blessed to also have the opportunity to continue to serve a local congregation. Here at COTC I work with the Shepherd Ministry; this ministry seeks to hold up in prayer the entire congregation while also providing opportunities for one-on-one caring relationships. I also assist with worship leadership and preaching and provide pastoral care as my schedule allows. I have a wonderful wife (Amy) and two great children (Katherine and Ben). I enjoy traveling, golf, reading and Penn State football.

  • James Black, Music Director
Who am I? I'm the kind of guy who gets excited about: an answered prayer; a song that speaks to my heart; eating breakfast or dinner in the back yard; reading the right verse at the right time; a hug from a friend; hearing someone sing with enthusiasm and purpose; playing ball with my boys; walking with Peg; being licked by Cocoa (husky); a family vacation in Maine with lots of laughs, lighthouses and lobster!

  • Shawn Steiner, Youth Pastor
After graduating from Grove City College in 2004, I met my wife Kristin. We have enjoyed encouraging and challenging teens to fall deeply in love with Jesus Christ. Our family recently grew with the addition of baby Ellie to our other two children, Austin and Kierah. We are excited to raise our children to know the living God, and oftentimes invite teens into sharing this experience with us. We want to see this generation bringing glory to God. He is our hope!

  • Dennis Wagers, Director of Children's Ministry and Outreach

I joined the staff late in 2009, to minister to the children in our congregation. Married to my lovely wife Elaine, we have 7 boys of our own. We hold God's focus on the innocence of ALL His children as a precious gift to be nurtured and appreciated. My wife and I desire to share the love of Christ with others... hoping and praying that you would find Church of the Cross to be a place of sincere caring and connected, inspired worship, just like we have.
