OCTOBER 14, 2012-An Erie staple for discounted movies and family fun will be closing for business tonight.

The Cinemark 6 dollar theater behind the Millcreek Mall has been the home of second run cinema favorites for more than 25-years.

Now, it's closing for business leaving some employees out of work and Erie residents paying up at the more costly theater down the road.

Mall officials tell us the theater is closing because of much needed building renovations and digital upgrades.

Employees from that theater tell us they haven't been offered jobs at the other Cinemark.

No word on what will be filling the vacated space.

's a shame that they have to close because they are forced to do digital upgrades, and a few renovations...and NOW...you only have a place to go that charges a LOT more to take your Family out for a nite of fun!! Isn't there ANY way someone can get a rally together to SAVE this theatre??? Hey, they saved Conneaut Lake Park with donations and STLL keep the prices reasonable...WHY not this theater??
