(OCTOBER 16, 2012) An Erie man's love for photography has landed him as a winner in a national contest.

Ron Vollentine's photo, titled "Ewwww..." was chosen by one of Hollywood's top directors, Ron Howard, as a winner in Canon's "Project Imagination."

Vollentine's photo has been placed among others in "The Unknown" category.
The Erie man says he uses photography as a form of self-therapy. It's what he enjoys and how he expresses himself.
But what he's most proud of is the exposure this contest could give Erie.

"People outside of Erie are going to see some of the potential people here in Erie have when it comes to talent. The musicians, the artists, the photographers, the writers, the film makers. We have a lot of extreme talent in the City of Erie, and this is a chance for people outside the city to see that," said Vollentine.

Now, 5 celebrity directors, including Eva Longoria, Bizz Stone and Jamie Fox will now select one photo from each of the 9 categories and direct short films based on those photos.
