Some local youngsters are learning about Ash Wednesday in detail for the first time.

An Ash Wednesday youth retreat is going on today at the Faith Angelical Lutheran Church in Erie.

The students are learning the meaning behind the imposition of ashes.
They're also being taught the importance of reflecting on the meaning of Lent.

The children will be helping in today's mass and are going over their roles as part of the retreat.

The children will also prepare and serve lunch after the noon worship service.
