The Ames True Temper manufacturing plant is closing its doors this fall. Thirty full-time, permanent employees will lose their jobs.

We spoke to Union City borough council president, Dan Brumigan, to confirm the closure, and he says this is the sixth factory to close in the past 15 years, resulting in a total loss of about 800 jobs in the Union City area. He says this is especially a large number of job losses, considering that the population of Union City is about 3.300.

He also says the community faces other economic challenges with the closure of the plant. The borough will lose tax revenue and water/sewage revenue from the plant closure.

Community members are surprised by the news of the closing, and think this is bad for the Union City economy.

"We need more jobs, we don't need more disappearing from here in Union City," said Michael Krizo, a worker at Molded Fiberglass in Union City.

After hearing PBO during the SOTU you would think this kind of thing was a thing of the past. Sorry for the community and those 30 people who will lose their jobs.
