When the temperatures change from cool and dry, to warm and humid, your home can become a breeding ground for mold.

While sometimes it is out of your control to prevent the growth of mold, it can sometimes be prevented.

Chris Hitz of Advanced Drying and Restoration says you should keep your home as dry as possible, as mold thrives in warm, damp, and dark areas.

He also suggests you fix any leaks/water damage in your home, as the moist area can be a perfect breeding ground for mold. He also advises to keep your home well ventilated. Mold spores are always circulating throughout the air, but if the spores are not moving freely, the spores can more easily latch on to the walls and "feed" off of those.

Not sure if you have already have mold in your home? Hitz says it is easy to tell if your home has a mold problem.

"That musty smell is usually an indication of active mold growth. As the mld is growing and reproducing it gives off a gas that has 'that' smell," Hitz said.

If you do have a mold problem, seek help from the experts. Mold remediation is a multi-step process that can take days, weeks to take care of.

Hitz suggests you find a company that is certified by the IICRC - Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, Restoration, and Certification.
