Assistant District Attorney Brian Krowicki made his opening statements to a jury of 8 men and 4 women this morning by saying quote: "The defendant, Rachel Kozloff, purposely shot Mike Henry."
Krowicki continued on describing 30 year old Kozloff as quote: "A jealous girlfriend who was desperate for a relationship with Henry."
According to the Commonwealth, Henry and Kozloff had a rocky 8 week relationship and she was more invested in the relationship than he was.
The Commonwealth tells the jury, Kozloff voluntarily went to the police station on April 13, the day after Henry was killed; and even though she admitted to being at Henry's apartment on East 18th Street that night, Kozloff denied being the shooter.
Krowicki continues saying quote: "Kozloff shot the victim twice while he laid unarmed on his sofa bed, paused, then fired two more shots at Henry, all the while his infant son was laying in the next room."
The DA's office explains quote: "You'll hear through evidence that Mike Henry was a tough guy; he could be rude and offensive, you'll find steroids and cocaine in his apartment, but despite those things, the defendant was desperate.
Krowicki closes by saying: "You'll see through text messages and surveillance video Kozloff was the one who shot and killed Mike Henry."
Kozloff's lawyer Jamie Mead deferred his opening statement and District Attorney Jack Daneri continued to bring numerous witnesses in for questioning.
One of the witnesses who was called to the stand is a friend of Kozloff's. According to officials Kozloff would text him and make comments to him about how she felt Henry was cheating on her.
