Ulysses Altland Trial Begins Monday

   JANUARY 13, 2013- The trial for a man charged in an Erie homicide is scheduled to begin tomorrow morning....

    23-year-old Ulysses Altland is accused of shooting 40-year-old Brent Washington of Detroit....

    Opening arguments will begin Monday morning.

    It was last March when Altland was at a birthday party with his family at Wagner's Bar at West 8th and Cascade...

    According to reports, an argument started between the men inside the bar....

    An altercation then broke out....

    And Washington was shot in the abdomen...

    Later dying at UPMC Hamot...

    That same evening Ulysses Altland's sister was shot in the arm....

    According to court reports, Altland plans to argue he fired to defend himself along with the people he was with...

    We're told a jury of eight women and four men, including two alternates were chosen on Friday to hear the case against 23-year-old Atland...

    Altland faces charges of aggravated assault and recklessly endangering... criminal homicide..... And two weapons charges....

    Opening statements will begin Monday morning at 9:30 in Judge Garhart's courtroom.
