January 24, 2013 - Thousands were distrupted by the water main break including businesses, schools and a university.

The water main break affected a large area and thousands of students and residents today.

Mercyhurst Preparatory High School and Our Lady of Mount Carmel were shut down today.

Mercyhurst University closed the campus this afternoon at 12:30.

University officials say the campus will be closed until Monday.

The Erie School District said it was an easy decision to keep 675 students from Joanna Connell at home because of the water main break.

Officials say only time will tell what will happen for Friday.

They will continue to monitor the situation.

Many businesses along East 38th Street were operational, including the Corner Stone.

However, some businesses along Pine Avenue were closed, including Dairy Queen.
