Two days worth of trial and error for Erie Water Works... They were finally able to locate a water main break a little before 11 Thursday night...that left close to 7500 customers without water...
CEO
of EWW Paul Vojtek says one of their supervisors spotted water running through
a drainage basin at the intersection of Pine and
Due to the break...it's estimated that the city was losing about 1.3 million gallons of water a day... It was a 12 inch line that was ruptured.
Crews have been working in the cold conditions since 7 this morning trying to repair the break...
Vojtek says most of the houses do have water service at this time, there are only about ten to twenty houses without service due to the break.
Vojtek explains when you have such a large area affected and you don't have any idea where the break could be, since it wasn't visible...they had to use valves, and through the process of elimination they figured out it was in the third segment.
But fortunately, we're told by this evening the pipe should be totally repaired.
