Putting together a newscast is no easy feat.
And some of the most critical tasks are performed by the people viewers never even see.
Today Traci Teudhope introduces us to the technical director of the newscasts at Cathedral Preparatory School; he's this week's Good Kid.
Nathan Kapsar Jr., Technical Director: "Every morning I get here before anyone else and turn on all the equipment from teleprompter, camera, switcher etc. From there I proceed to get graphics, including weather, from Jet."
Nate really does run the show.
Tom Deau, Cathedral Prep teacher: "Yes, Nate gets everybody organized back there, tells cameramen which shot he needs: 1 shot, 2 shot, do we have a guest coming in? The camera guys need to know which shot to shoot. Nate makes sure kids are doing what they're supposed to do."
It's a tough gig but it's a rewarding job too.
Nate: "I think what I like most about directing news is being able to see all this raw material come together, live, all at once."
And when it comes to the future?
Nate: "I'm open to anything right now."
His teacher says he has incredible potential and proven capability.
Tom Deau: "He does well on tests, he asks questions, he performs above and beyond; all projects are done top knotch. Nate is the ideal student. If I could have a whole classroom full of Nates, I'd be the luckiest teacher in Erie."
