It takes a teacher who loves the job to keep a smile on his or her face throughout the day.
But that's just one of the qualities that this week's Golden Apple Award winner passes on to his students.
David Belmondo has more in this week's Jet 24, Edinboro University Golden Apple Award Winner.
Its hard to find Strong Vincent 12th grade history teacher Stephan Shaut without a smile.
Brianna Smerkar, nominated Mr. Shaut, said: "If you're down, he can make any day better."
Brianna Smerker, along with three classmates nominated Mr. Shaut for this week's Golden Apple Award. An honor he credits his students for.
Stephan Shaut, Golden Apple winner, said: "It's really been an honor to get this nomination, this award, I owe it all to the students."
In her letter, Brianna writes that Mr. Shaut shows "compassion and respect."
Mr. Shaut: "Thats the key, compassion and respect is something I preach every day. If you give enough of that, the kids will give that back to you."
Another key to his success in the classroom.
Mr. Shaut: "We have to have a good personality, have humor in the classroom and keep the kids related to what's going in in their lives."
And that's why the Golden Apple Award winners shine. And that shine goes beyond the classroom.
Jeff Pinski, Edinboro University, said: "It's not just the teacher, it's the whole school that shines in the pride of the teacher getting this award. Then it goes beyond the school. It goes to the whole school district."
"I wont ever forget him. He's my favorite teacher and made a difference in my life."
Congratulations Mr. Shaut on being selected as this weeks Jet TV, Edinboro University, Golden Apple Award winner.
