Former President Gerald Ford died Tuesday evening at the age of 93.
The 38th President of the United States was sworn in August 9, 1974 following the resignation of Richard Nixon.
He had become Vice President in 1973 after Spiro Agnew pleaded no contest to tax evasion charges and was also forced to resign.
The former congressman from Michigan also served as House Minority Leader and a member of the Warren Commission, which investigated the assassination of President John F Kennedy.
Gerald Ford had been in failing health for several years, but in November became the oldest surviving former President in history.
