A homeland security initiative requiring a passport to enter the US and Canada is very near.
Currently travelers need only to show a driver`s license or other government-issued photo i.d. card to travel.
Under the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative beginning January 23rd 2007, all US citizens, traveling by air between the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America will be required to present a valid passport.
If you plan to travel by land to those areas, the requirement has been extended to January 1st, 2008.
