GAF to Close Erie Facility
Another local company is looking to move out of Erie.
For months, rumors of the GAF Corporation closing up shop have been circulating.
Workers got the bad news at 11:00 Thursday morning. They were told the plant would be closing, putting more than 150 employees out of work.
Local leaders say they were surprised by the announcement.
We`re told GAF is moving towards consolidating operations with another GAF facility outside the Erie area.
Employees were told they would be working until the plant closes March 31st.
The employees were sent home Thursday and told to come back to work on Monday.
There were some relocation offers made available to some employees, but many say they won`t take them.
Severance packages still need to be worked out with the unions.
