Summit Township Supervisors Approve Ordinance Change

A local developer is one step closer to purchasing 3.3 acres of land at Conneaut Lake Park. It's a purchase that could ultimately save the park financially.

Summit Township supervisors in Crawford County unanimously approved a change to a housing ordinance Tuesday night.

 Greg Sutterlin wants to buy the 3.3 acres of land for $1.7 million, but he says the approval to change the housing ordinance was an absolute requirement for him to move on.

Financial struggles have plagued the park for quite sometime now. Now that developers are one step closer to purchasing this land, things are beginning to look up for the historical park. Tuesday's approval by township supervisors now means that Sutterlin can build 10 condos per acre instead of 6.

But the sale has not been approved just yet. Now Sutterlin will await the sale approval from Judge Anthony Vardaro , and if that's approved the local developer will begin the process of building on the 3.3 acres of lake front property.

Officials say they're very optimistic about the future of their beloved park. The sale of this land will not only help the park financially now, but it will also help them develop for the future. The $1.7 million for 3.3 acres won't clear up all the debt but it's going to give them the ability to get rid of a lot of leans against the property.

The big question now is, if the sale is ultimately approved, does it guarantee Conneaut Lake Park will open this summer? At this point, officials are saying "Yes."

A hearing was held Tuesday in front of Judge Vardaro and he's expected to make his decision on whether or not to approve the sale of the property in the coming days.
