Erie School District Gets 15 Million
The muti-million dollar, five-year college-bound grant comes from the GE Foundation and will help increase college readiness and strengthen math and science programs in the district.
The grant is the single largest gift in the district's history and is a part of the GE Foundation's 100-million effort to help several districts nationwide to increase the number of students entering college.
Thursday's presentation of money was held at Strong Vincent High School before a crowd of more than 900- students, teachers, community leaders and the Governor.
The grant aims to help the Erie School District better prepare students for a changing global economy rooted in math and science coursework.
GE officials say the company has been a part of the Erie community for 100 years and this grant helps to plan a seed for the community's future.
