Mayor Announces Lerta Plan

watch video
City CouncilThe Lerta plan gives owners of new construction in the city a 10-year tax break. The mayor, and members of council, want that ended. Mayor Sinnott outlined his multi-faceted plan to members of City Council Thursday night, involving targeted and non-targeted areas for the city. For new businesses, a 5-year tax break would be tied to the creation of new jobs and how much they pay in the inner city. The higher than minimum wage jobs, the higher the tax break percentage. They would also benefit from using an existing building in the city. Current business also could participate in Lerta if they add jobs. Home owners would also benefit from new construction or improvements based on the homes location. Council members we spoke with said they liked the plan but needed to study it further. The county and school district also have to look at it. The current Lerta plan expires in November.
