The message was found Tuesday by school officials who said it indicated that something would happen Friday.
It made reference to Virginia Tech.
An outside security agency was on hand at the high school, as well as other schools in the district, on Friday.
The security guards had hand-held metal detectors and said they may conduct some random searches.
Backpacks were not permitted in Franklin Schools Friday.
Students were told they would have to empty their lockers at the end of each school day until further notice.
Franklin School District Superintendent Ron Paranick said state police and Franklin City Police were notified.
He assured parents that all necessary precautions were being taken.

There is no word on who is responsible for leaving the message in the restroom.
