Cussewago Elementary's Fate

watch video
Penncrest School District officials hope to save $600,000 by closing the Cussewago Elementary School. On Monday night, board members held a work session where parents began campaigning for the school. Only two parents spoke, both presenting Power Point presentations asking many questions about the district's budget numbers. The district says the downward trend of enrollment is why they are considering closing the school. Parents say there are ways of improving the numbers which are down. The school had 162 students fifteen years ago, now its down to 106. Parents don't want to see the school to be shut down, espcially since it's highly ranked by the state for its academics. The school board has until August 9th to make up its mind about what to do with Cussewego Elementary. A meeting is set for Tuesday, May 8th, at 7:00p.m. at Cambridge Springs High School auditorium.
