EMTA Seeks Funding

Mayor Joe Sinnott joined Governor Ed Rendell and other mayors across Pennsylvania to urge the General Assembly to support a new proposed funding source for EMTA and other state public transit systems.
EMTA says it has experienced a 9.3 percent increase in readership in the last two years.
With more of a demand and higher operating costs, the authority says its need more state funding to stay in the black.
Governor Ed Rendell has proposed taxing the profits of oil corporations in Pennsylvania to raise 760 million dollars more per year to keep public transit systems operating effectively.
Local transportation officials say the plan is much needed.
Without this new funding source Erie officials say we could see dramatic changes in the public transportation system, including fare increases, route changes and reductions in service.
