Wattsburg Teachers on Strike Watch

watch video
I t's coming down to the wire for Wattsburg teachers to reach an agreement with the school board on a new contract.

Classes in Wattsburg have already been cancelled for tomorrow. Depending on how a meeting goes Tuesday night between teachers and the district...It could mean more of the school week could be canceled.

Mediators for teachers and the Wattsburg school board will meet Tuesday night to try and reach a tentative agreement... If that doesn't happen, a strike is planned for Wednesday morning.

According to PSEA representative, Marcus Schlegel - the school board has come back with lower increases in wages than they've offered before.

Also - they're demanding higher insurance co-pays and premiums than previously offered. We also hear retro-activity in pay is a big issue. Residents in the district say a strike will only hurt students.

Wattsburg teachers have been working without a contract since August 16th. Action news 24 has learned that if teachers do decide to strike, it will affect the date of graduation for Wattsburg students.
