breaking news
One way of beating the high cost of gas nowadays is to drive a hybrid car or truck.
They use less gas because they run off of a battery.
The first hybrid, the Toyota Prius, had record sales in March as gas prices crept higher and higher.
Other hybrids, like ones from Honda, Lexus and Ford, are also becoming hot cars to drive.
The market had weakened as gas prices started to decline at the beginning of the year.
Rebates and tax breaks helped keep the hybrids moving off of local lots.
Once, you couldnt get a hybrid because demand outstripped supply.
Now, the car companies are keeping up and even planning to introduce more types of hybrid vehicles like trucks.
While they are eco-friendly, it seems most of the hybrid buyers at Bianchi Honda on Peach Street are looking for gas savings.
The E.P.A. this year downgraded the mileage estimates on hybrids but they still get nearly double the miles to the gallon than regular cars.
