East Erie Neighbors Upset Over Graffitti

watch video
Some local artists are busy painting the town, but some east Erie folks aren't enjoying the scenery. Graffitti is becoming a common theme on buildings in the city, and neighbors want to see something done about it.

An abandoned home on the corner of 8th and Reed is just one of the places vandals have recently hit. Another one is just down the block at the corner of 8th and Wayne streets.  Both buildings appear to have been hit by the same group of people.

Separate parties are responsible for each. The home on 8th and Reed was marked as a blighted home in March and city code enforcement officials say they're in the process of taking it by eminent domain, however that's a very lengthy process. The owners are deceased and there isn't an estate.

The building on Wayne St. is in the process of being obtained by Erie's Redevelopment Authority.

Neighbors are ready to see something done about this situation.  They say the sooner the better.

Erie City Councilwoman, Jessica Horan-Kunco has been working with the police department to find out who's doing this in the city.

She's also putting together a group of volunteers to clean up the mess.
