Memorial Day Weekend typically brings lots of boaters out to the peninsula. But with gas prices burning a hole in everyone's pockets, the waters of Lake Erie might be a little calmer this holiday weekend. Most people say they'll enjoy lake Erie and their boats this weekend but from a docked position. Its costing boaters about a third more to fill up at the pumps this summer as compared to last summer, whether its gasoline or diesel fuel. This means some of the larger yacht owners at the Erie Yacht Club can spend upwards of $2,400 to fill up, whereas some of the smaller boat owners out on the peninsula dish out around $200 for gas. Some people have ditched larger sea wings altogether and are sticking to sail or motor boats. While some boaters are keeping the anchor down on their vessels, others have decided to carpool... or rather boat pool. At most gas docks gasoline prices are higher on water than on land in part because of stiff environment regulations, high overhead costs and a shortage of competition.
