The willows planted Thursday at the Lake Erie Arboretum at Frontier Park won't be weeping. They have no reason to be sad as they're part of a major community art project. The project is called "Willow in Community." Volunteers began putting in the live willow rod on Thursday. They may just look like a bunch of sticks right now but you'll see the artistic design when they sprout their leaves. The project aims to increase environmental awareness. Nationally known willow artist, Bonnie Gale, is supervising the placement of the rods. She designed the project around the design of a leaf, with the help of the Erie art community. The group can use more help in putting in the willows. They will be there Friday and Saturday starting at 9:00 a.m. You can call the Erie Arts Council for more information.
