The GECAC Community Charter School officially got a new name Friday. A dedication ceremony was held Friday to rename the school after the man who founded it, R. Benjamin Wiley. The school is now called the R. Benjamin Wiley Community Charter School. The students, along with several city officials gathered at the school Friday to honor Ben Wiley. In 1998, he began the Gecac Community Charter School at 22nd and Rees Streets. In January 2001, the school was moved to its current location along East Lake Rd. His wife Barbara said she is proud of her husband's accomplishments and was honored that his name will be attached to the school he began. Ben Wiley died in June 2004.
