Three Local Elementary Schools Honored

watch video

Three Erie elementary schools get recognized at tonight's school board meeting... Some good news after only one Erie District School met the state standards with passing numbers...

But these awards are positive.

Teachers tell us grades are important, but it's also important to know how to communicate.

Diehl elementary, Woodrow Wilson, and Lincoln elementary school have been chosen as schools of distinction by the College for Every Student organization.

Dennis Fahey is the program director of the CFES in Massachusetts...

He tells us they have 200 schools in 24 states that applied for this recognition, Fahey narrowed it down to 20 schools nationwide, and three of them are from Erie.

But in order to qualify you have to have three core practices... Mentoring, leadership and service and pathways to college.

Students must be role models and give back to the community... Which
Fahey says all three schools have done beautifully.

But the passing numbers in the Erie School District have been low, only one school meeting the state standards... This recognition tonight was rewarding.

Comments

{Some good news after only one Erie District School met the state standards with passing numbers}???? Only ONE met the State Standard's??? Am I wrong here or doesn't this sound kind of ironic?? WHY would you give the other 2 schools awards they did NOT qualify for? Isn't THAT showing student's that you DON'T have to do your best and still receive a reward?? I would NOT have included the 2 school's that did not qualify, sounds like they need better Teacher's to teach our kids in order to receive a reward for excellence!!
