U.S. Senator Bob Casey in Erie

watch video
U.S. Senator Bob Casey is in Erie. Casey is visiting Presque Isle State Park and GE Transportation Systems.

Senator Casey is at Presque Isle to discuss his support for federal funding for sand replenishment at the park.

You may remember, Presque Isle State Park was supposed to receive more than 600-thousand federal dollars for sand replenishment this year, but now those funds have been reassigned.

Governor Ed Rendell has said in the past week he supports the release of 800-thousand dollars in funds to replenish the sand on Erie's beaches.

Although the state is reviewing the paperwork, officials say there is no doubt that Presque Isle will get the funds. However, even with the money being released, the bad news is that contractors may not be able to disperse the sand until July at the earliest.

Later today, Senator Bob Casey will tour GE, we will be there and have a full report of this visit coming up on Action News 24 and FOX 66 News at Ten.
