Otters Use Short-Handed Goals to Beat Saginaw
J.P. Labardo scored the first of his two goals to open the scoring 9:19 into the game with a shorthanded goal, firing a shot from the right circle to give the Otters a lead they would never relinquish.
Connor Crisp scored on the power play at 11:38 for his fourth goal of the season, as he banged in a rebound from a Travis Wood shot.
Luke Cairns then scored the Otters' second shorthanded marker of the night as he took a nice pass from Jake Evans and fired a shot from the slot through Jake Paterson for his third goal of the season.
The Otters added three more goals in the second, starting with Hayden Hodgson's first OHL goal at the 2:39 mark. Hodgson fired a shot just under the crossbar to end Paterson's night in net.
Connor McDavid extended his league-leading point-scoring streak to 12 games after winning the faceoff to lead to Jimmy McDowell's second goal of the season at 9:30, a shot from the half-boards that fooled Nikita Serebryakov.
Connor Brown then scored his seventh goal of the season during a two-man advantage to give Erie a commanding 6-0 lead after two periods.
Labardo scored his second of the game and fifth of the season at 10:40 of the third to complete the scoring for the Otters. The only blemish for Erie came with 1:32 remaining as Jimmy Lodge scored on the power play to end Oscar Dansk's shutout bid.
Adam Pelech (3a) and Cairns (1g, 2a) each led the way with three points for the Otters. Dansk made 34 saves for the win. The Otters were two-for-six on the power play.
