The Legend Of Graveyard Pond

We're ready for our second Halloween stop along Route 24. This stop takes us to Graveyard Pond on Presque Isle, were some men who fought in the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812 were buried.

The legend goes that back during the War of 1812, Commodore Perry had his ships in what is now called Misery Bay.

The winter was bitter, several men died and were buried with honors in what is now called Graveyard Pond.

That's where our search for the haunt begins.

Jerry Thompson is lead investigator for the Pennsylvania Society for Paranormal Research, a group of 8 who look for paranormal activity. On this night, their sites were set on Graveyard Pond, a place that could have what they're looking for.

JERRY THOMPSON of PA SOCIETY FOR PARANORMAL RESEARCH: "I'd have to say yes, there's probably something walking around out there and that's what we're trying to capture and explain."

Their search involves motion detectors, infrared cameras, heat seeking cameras and digital recorders and electronic equipment all placed in various positions around the pond.

Sensitive hand held recorders hopefully will catch an evp or electronic voice phenomena.

"Can you tell us what ship you were on?"

"Can you tell us about the conditions of the ship you were on?"

"Are there any sailors from 1812?"

"Do you have a message for us?"

ERIC ARMBRUSTER: "Usually, just trying to see if anything seems out of place."

Then there's the light session. This one had me wondering.

A question is asked. An ordinary flashlight does the rest.

"If you drowned in this specific area and are looking for someone, feel free to light up the lights."

Several seconds later the light goes on.

Another question: "So there's only one of you here tonight?"

And amazingly, the light goes on.

Unfortunately, that's as close as we came to identifying any paranormal activity at Graveyard Pond.

Thompson said there was a lot of outside noise at the time we did our story and that made recordings difficult.

He would like to do another session because he feels there could be paranormal activity around Graveyard Pond.
