Political Science Professor Reacts to Election Results

November 7, 2012 - Arguably one of the most important presidential elections in recent history is in the books.

It is one political science experts will be talking about for years to come.

Dr. Michael Federici, Mercyhurst Univeristy political science professor, says it wasn't a surprise Obama defeated Mitt Romney.

The polls and early numbers predicted that.

Federici says around 9pm Tuesday, he was just about certain Obama would be re-elected.

He says for Romney to win, there were three states to watch.

According to Federici, those were Florida, North Carolina and Virginia.

During Romney's concession speech, Federici says he had a gracious attitude.

As for Obama's speech, he says he came across as if he knew he would be re-elected.

Federici says there will be two big issues that stand out from this election: the amount of money spent for the campaigns and how Obama's campaign was run on the ground in key states like Ohio.
