Ainsworth Pet Nutrition Donates Food to Sandy's Pet Victims

MEADVILLE, PA (November 14, 2012) Ainsworth Pet Nutrition donated over four tons of pet food to families and pets hit hardest by Hurricane Sandy. 

The donation consisted of Ainsworth's Rachael Ray Nutrish wet and dry dog foods and treats. The food was sent directly to a new ASPCA shelter in Queens, NY, which is being set up specifically for assisting families who have lost pets in the hurricane and taking in pets lost during the devastating storm. The shelter is being funded through a generous $500,000 donation from Rachael's Rescue, an organization Ray started that uses her proceeds from Nutrish to help animals in need.  Since Sandy hit, the ASPCA has rescued more than 250 animals and treated or provided supplies to nearly 6,000 in New York City and Long Island, NY.

"This storm was so devastating not only to our human friends that live in the New York and New Jersey areas, but also to our animal friends, and helping those friends with a donation of pet food is the least we can do," said Annina Silverman, Nutrish Senior Brand Manager at Ainsworth Pet Nutrition.  "Our partnership with Rachael's Rescue is a huge part of the Nutrish identity, and we're thrilled that Rachael's proceeds from Nutrish are able to fund worthy causes like this." The monetary donation is the largest single gift made by Rachael's Rescue, whose nearly $4 million in donations to date are funded by the sale of Nutrish products.
