Nationwide Petition Over Holiday Hours

watch video

11/15/12

Black Friday is just over a week away... More and more stores decided to start Black Friday shopping on Thanksgiving...prompting an employee at one store to start a nationwide petition...

Thousands of people are signing an online petition urging their employers save Thanksgiving... The people we talked to tonight tell us people are forgetting what the holidays really stand for.

Stores like Walmart, Sears, Kmart and Target ...are all opening their doors for Black Friday shopping at either 8 or 9 Thanksgiving night.

This is the first year for the change... Store managers at Kmart tell us they usually open up at midnight on Black Friday, but this year, things are different.

Brenda Gelotte, a Kmart employee says that they've been changing their hours... Opening at 6 am to 4 pm on Thanksgiving... Then they'll be closing and opening up again at 8 pm until 3 am... And then closing and opening again from 5 am until 11 pm... Which are traditionally their normal black Friday hours...

All of this change and not spending time with family has prompted one Target employee in California to start an online petition.. With over 200,000 signatures..

Begging employers to let them enjoy thanksgiving with their family and keep Black Friday shopping on Friday.
