November 16, 2012 - More than 1,000 bags were packed this morning at the Erie City Mission for their annual turkey basket give away.

Volunteers from five local YMCAs quickly packed all the necessary thanksgiving food items for 1,200 turkey baskets

This isn't the first time YMCA employees were lending a hand to the Erie City Mission.

Last year, 1,100 baskets were packed before 12pm by Y volunteers.

This year, a friendly competition against their previous record as they rapidly worked to get all 1,200 plus baskets packed before noon.

Officials from the Erie City Mission greatly appreciate their help because it wouldn't be possible without them.

The total cost of all of these baskets without donations would cost the mission around $17,000.

Officials say that the need in our community is growing.

Baskets will be given away at 9am Monday at the Erie City Mission.

A long line is expected to form a few hours before 9am.
